THE RACE

The 5 kilometer race at the World Athletics Road Running Championship Copenhagen 26 is for the few and fierce with podium ambitions. And for the many, who simply join for the unique and festive experience.

 

It's one of the most popular running distances – both today and in the history of running.

 

Its origins can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece in 720 BC, where it began as a 3 mile race that was part of the Olympic Games. The course took the runners around the olympic grounds where the athletes were cheered by thousands of spectators.

 

Fast forward to the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26, where not much will change. Here you can look forward to an amazing race through the beautiful Danish capital, where you will share the road with some of the best runners on the planet.

 

The course is fast, flat and full of loud spectators that will make you feel like the center of the world. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner, the 5K is achievable. The distance is short enough to attract newcomers but also challenging enough for experienced runners to chase personal bests

 

And regardless of your pace we promise you that the music, entertainment and spectators along the course will help carry you all the way to the finish line – and your own world championship medal.
