Duguma and Hess fly to world leads in Metz

World indoor 800m champion Tsige Duguma emerged victorious in a rematch with world indoor silver medallist Jemma Reekie at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor – a World Indoor Tour Silver meeting – in Metz on Saturday (8).

The Olympic silver medallist from Ethiopia clocked a world-leading 1:58.97 – the second-fastest indoor performance of her career – to win comfortably ahead of the Briton, who ran 1:59.72 in second place.

The men’s event was also swift, won by Algeria’s Slimane Moula in 1:45.11 ahead of Kenya’s Noah Kibet (1:45.19).

Germany’s Max Hess produced the second-best leap of his life, and his farthest jump in eight years, to win the men’s triple jump with a world-leading 17.41m from Italy’s Andy Diaz Hernandez (17.31m).

Elsewhere, Australian youngster Torrie Lewis ran a world-leading 22.65 to win the women’s 200m. USA’s Alia Armstrong won a close 60m hurdles contest with Nadine Visser, 7.81 to 7.84, while Kuma Girma won the men’s 3000m in 7:31.78.

At the Orlen Cup in Lodz, another World Indoor Tour Silver meeting, Poland’s Jakub Szymanski improved on his own national indoor record to win the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.39, having clocked 7.43 in the heats. Compatriot Damian Czykier finished second in the final in 7.50.

Greeze’s Olympic bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis was also in national-record-breaking form, winning the pole vault with 5.92m.

World indoor silver medallist Ewa Swoboda won a close tussle with world indoor bronze medallist Zaynab Dosso in the women’s 60m. Dosso clocked the fastest time of the day with her 7.10 run in the heats, but Swoboda got the upper hand in the final, 7.13 to 7.16.

European silver medallist Ditaji Kambundji took the women’s 60m hurdles in 7.83, the second-fastest performance of her career.
